Here at Inflation Data, we have several Inflation Calculators you can use depending on exactly what you are trying to do.
Cumulative Inflation Calculator![]() |
The Cumulative Inflation Calculator calculates total cumulative inflation in percent between exact months and years since 1913.
Other calculators may not request a month and instead use an average for the year, which would produce similar results to choosing June or July as your month, but this would not include inflation for the last half of the year. This may be fine for long periods, but for short periods, the result would be less accurate. This inflation calculator uses months and years; it not only gives the total cumulative inflation over that time period, but also the inflation-adjusted price of your starting value. |
Steampunk Calculator![]() |
Our “Steampunk” Calculator is a fun way to calculate inflation for very long periods (i.e., since 1774). Since data prior to 1913 doesn’t include monthly data, you can only enter a year into this calculator. It purposely runs a bit slower to give you a fun steampunk show. |
BLS Buying Power Calculator![]() |
The BLS Buying Power Calculator allows you to enter a starting value and a starting date, along with an ending date, and it will tell you the equivalent buying power. In the example at the right, we can see that it would take $1,913.79 in July 2025 to buy what you could buy for $1,000 in January 2020. |
![]() |
If you know the inflation rate, or the total cumulative inflation over a certain period, you might want to know how much something would cost after increasing by that amount of inflation. To calculate that simply plug the inflation rate and the starting amount into this “How much would it cost calculator“. Note that 91.38% inflation would cause prices to rise from $1000 to $1,913.80 which is the inflation we had in the above example. |
